Mademoiselle Leach comments, " Since the summer of 2008 I have been playing around with making shaped works. I have looked at the work of Kenneth Noland, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Mangold, Ruth Root, Francine Savard, and the recent work of François Lacasse to name a few. I have also examined my own work to see how I can make shapes that reflect my aesthetic concerns and artistic identity. Concurrently, inspired by the large scale canvases displayed at the MoMA last winter, the work of Joan Miro has captured my attention, as well. Abstract Repeat: Circles and Shapes shows a body of work that incorporates the shapes into large format paintings applying that scale found in Miro.
